With winter upon us (yes, I know, some of you are making faces at me right now), I thought to put together a post for all of the beautiful couples out there who will be getting married this winter season (or next).
Some of you may be concerned that you won’t be able to create the effect or look that you’re longing for, but don’t worry – we have some great tips and advice for you.

Choosing Your Colors

If you’re looking to have your primary wedding colour be purple, pink, turquoise or orange (sometimes thought of as summer colours), you still can! We suggest picking a shade that has a deeper hue, such as a violet or plum, deep pink or magenta, teal or a darker orange, to match the winter wedding season but still incorporate your favorite colour. If you’re concerned about the deeper shades being too dark for you, we suggest adding white to the mix. Which brings us to our next point.

Whites Are Important

wedding decoreAlways a classic wedding colour, whites are our absolute favorite and one of the most popular requests that we get for winter weddings. By incorporating whites (or ivories or creams) into your wedding centerpieces, bouquets and even your décor, you not only reflect the season (the
snow and crispness), but you lighten up what could possibly be confused with a holiday party at this time of year.

Choosing Your Flowers

Although any flowers can be used for winter weddings, the most popular ones tend to be roses and hydrangeas, as many of the other flowers are not in season during the colder months. But don’t feel limited to these. If you have your heart set on gerbera daisies, calla lilies, freesias, or
any other flower, talk to your florist to see if they are able to order them for you. Although white is usually the go-to colour for flowers in the winter, keep in mind that there is always a way to add some colour if that’s what you want. Floral spray in different colours is available, as is the option to add greenery and any other elements that you wish. Remember, the flowers on your wedding day should be an extension of your personality, and the look and feel that you want to create.

Sparkle and Shine to Your Heart’s Content

Holiday season naturally brings with it sparkle and shine, so it’s the perfect opportunity to use it to your
advantage. Paired with candles or lighting in warm gold or cool silver, sparkles and all things shiny can really add some twinkle to your big day!

In case you can’t tell yet, we love weddings. We love designing and decorating weddings. And a piece of advice that we will give you is this: don’t be afraid to express your creativity when it comes to having your wedding during the colder months. If you want to have a themed wedding, do it! If you want to serve hot chocolate during dessert, save a cup for us please. Yes, pictures with the sun shining and flowers blooming can create a beautiful effect, but can you imagine wedding pictures with cascading snowflakes caught at the perfect moment as they land in your hair? And another bonus – winter gives you and your fiancé an excuse to get a little cozier during your wedding day. Could you really ask for more?
